“I run with my head, my heart and my guts, because physically, I don’t think I’ve got a great deal of talent or ability. I started at the bottom and worked up.” – Steve Jones, former marathon world record holder
Heading into this past weekend, I planned to take some downtime – a bit of rest and recovery – as I look forward to a desert trail race in Arizona. Undoubtedly, the upcoming 31K race (19.5 miles) will prove challenging – as much for its climb up a mountainside as the distance for my current training level.
While I planned a long bike ride Saturday and a 10-mile run Sunday, I found myself tired and worn out, probably from a heavy training load the past few weeks. So my plans were set aside as I opted for two shorter rides. And today I was rewarded with a good run – indoors – as I look to sharpen my fitness before Saturday’s race.
Several friends also are heading down to Arizona this week and will be running their own races. I’m looking forward to cheering them on during the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘N Roll Marathon – some in the full marathon while others in the half marathon. Best of luck!
