“The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.” – Oprah Winfrey
It seems a week doesn’t go by when I don’t bump into someone who tells me that running has changed his or her life. As runners, I think its a common thread that bonds us – the sport is more than just something to do. It begins to define us:Â who we are, what we do, how we do it and what we want to do in the future.
That’s the power of running. It can be a life-changing adventure and lead us on a journey for personal growth and discovery.
Now after a little more than 3 years of tying up my laces and heading out the door, I can’t imagine life without running. It’s proven to be life changing, transformative and an avenue to dream about possibilities and exploration.
For my friends leaving today for the Ice Age Trail 50 Mile run, IÂ think running has been a similar experience for them. They’ve ventured into ultramarathons, finding roads less traveled, to discover new boundaries. To live life to the fullest. To do something that a small fraction of people ever do. Best of luck to Tim and Joel.
For many others, the Fargo Marathon awaits, just about 2 weeks away. For some, it will be the first time running in any type of race. Others will be pushing their own limits to conquer new distances or set lower personal marks. Whatever the case, dream big – the human spirit is adaptable and capable of more than most of us imagine.
