It’s all about the dogs.
Fargo Marathon Race Director Mark Knutson was on to something when he expanded marathon week events to include a dog run. When this year’s race reached the 500-dog maximum capacity, he opened up registration to allow more entries.
For weeks, I debated whether to have Cooper’s first race come at the Furgo Dog Run, but opted out as I decided he still needed a little time to grow — he seemingly has growth spurts overnight.
Instead, I met up with my usual Tuesday night running crew, and our route goes by the Fargodome, where hundreds of runners and their furry companions waited the start.
Derek Johnson won the race, with his pooch Nikki, to repeat as champion. WDAY did a nice piece on the race and Nikki’s winning run. Back at Fargo Brewing Co., where the running group returned after our workout, some of the dogs and their owners showed up with their medals. All sizes and breeds quickly turned our conversation to our own pets.
