This weekend Grand Forks will play host to the Wild Hog Half Marathon and it should be the best year yet.
You can get all the details on the race website and follow along on Facebook to catch important updates. With the expo already under way, there will be a frenzy of activity over the next 24 hours. Camp Hog, as race headquarters is called, will be the place to be as the mascot race, family fun run and 5K all are set for tonight. Along with a pasta feed, Bart Yasso from Runner’s World will be on hand to sign autographs and provide a motivational message. The 10K and half marathon distances will be featured tomorrow and post-race activities are all on tap for Saturday.
Participants will love the swag — trendy and redesigned shirts, unique medals, socks and a pint glass — and the weather looks good.
This year, armed with my phone and an iPad, I’ll be out and about to snap photos, posting them and other observations from the weekend to the race’s Facebook page. The timing couldn’t be better as I wind down the days prior to the St. George Marathon, now just 8 days away. The taper, for the record, is going OK, as I’ve run just enough to keep the legs loose. I’ll squeeze in a few more runs this weekend, hopefully just enough to offset any cravings for pizza, french fries or cheeseburgers.
