“Every one of us gets through the tough times because somebody is there, standing in the gap to close it for us.” – Oprah Winfrey
Somehow the week just seemed to get away from me.
Work. Running. Writing.
In what seems like a blur, the highlight is simple:Â Several terrific training runs during what will turn out to be my highest mileage week so far this year. All but one of those runs have been with friends.
Strong training runs, including two (11 miles and 8 miles) in the rain, were unexpected. Last Saturday, I struggled to run 14 miles, half of which were supposed to be at marathon pace. In the midst of that run, I knew I didn’t have anything in the tank. Each mile was strikingly similar to the previous one:Â slow.
Since Sunday, when I split a short recovery run with a stop in the office, running has been going great. Perhaps I’ve broken through the performance lag from the changing marathon cycles to settle into a groove. All I know is that every day this week has given me terrific runs.
My big hope is that this momentum carries over into Saturday, when I’ll be churning out a 24-miler.
It also sounds like the Fargo Marathon, which closes its online registration late Saturday, will be near it’s 20,000-runner goal. My plan was to sign up at the expo, but I may need to go online to secure a spot in the half marathon.
