One race (leads to another)

There are so many races this fall that it’s tough to keep up with all of them. This past weekend there were races in Bismarck, Valley City and Walker – and some pretty impressive results for some local runners.

In Bismarck, half marathon winners for both men and women hail from the Fargo-Moorhead area:

James Schanandore, 24, of Fargo, won the overall and mens division with a 1:07:12, more than 6 minutes faster than the next fastest runner (former Fargo Marathon winner Chad Wallin of Minot).

Lisa Dyer, 28, of Moorhead, won the women’s division by running 1:22:31. Her time was fast enough for 6th overall. Clare Kazmierczak, 33, of Moorhead finished right behind her, clocking 1:22:48. Both women are running the Chicago Marathon next month, and clocked impressive times at Grandma’s Marathon in June.

At the North Country Marathon in Walker, Minn., several runners placed in the top 3 in their age groups for the trail half marathon. In the 25-29 men’s division,Fargo’s Andre Luis Miranda finished second; Fargo’s Mark Pavicic took first and Moorhead’s Ramon Christensen placed third in the men’s 55-59 division. Full results can be found by clicking here.

At Valley City’s Sheyenne Shuffle Half Marathon, Fargo’s Heather Curtis, 31, and Kari Callahan, 48, won their respective age groups for women. All the race results can be found here.

This Saturday, there are a couple more races on the schedule: the annual Roger Maris Cancer Center Home Run/Walk sponsored by Sanford Health and the Tour de Leaves race, part of the Frazee (Minn.) Fall Fest.

The Tour de Leaves race is a 12K cross-country run through “rolling hills, pasture, woods, meadows and streams,” according to the event poster. Registration for the 9 a.m. race begins an hour earlier in front of the Frazee Fire Station on Main Avenue. For more information, contact Jason at (218) 334-5092.
